Synopsis
This is Joan Rivers's account of her triumph over family tragedy, and her long struggle to reach the top in show business. It deals with the problems of growing up believing you are unattractive; of a marriage in which the wife is more successful than the husband; of her husband's suicide; and of helping their daughter to cope. What happened to Joan Rivers had more to do with being a woman than being a star. Ultimately she was forced to choose between her husband and her career, and she stood by her husband and was out of a job. The phones stopped ringing and she became persona non grata in Hollywood. Then, after 22 years of marriage, her husband killed himself. In this autobiography she tells how she found the inner resources to survive, inch by inch rebuilding her life and her career.
