Synopsis

Racist, sadistic, sexist snob? Or gentle, benevolent, tolerant bon viveur? Auberon Waugh's tendency to say the things that people least want to hear and his mastery of the art of vituperation, combined with his use of irony and fantasy, have made him a celebrated columnist. Here he describes his difficult relationship with his distinguished father (the novelist Evelyn Waugh), National Service, his inglorious exit from Oxford, and his 30-year career in journalism, including work on "Private Eye" and "The Spectator".

A propos du livre

Présentation de l'éditeur

A resounding chorus of "Yes, it will!" greeted the long-awaited American publication of the memoirs of the eldest son of Evelyn Waugh and the best-loved practitioner of what he calls "the vituperative arts" in Britain. As enjoyable and outrageous an autobiography as the best of his father's fiction, Will This Do? takes the reader from Waugh's difficult childhood, through his education first at Oxford and then Fleet Street, to his stingingly funny column at the libelous Private Eye.
