Synopsis
The Official Introduction to DB2 UDB for z/OS provides a comprehensive overview of Version 8 of the DB2 UDB for z/OS product. The book serves a dual purpose: it gives new and prospective users a solid introduction to key product features and it covers material contained in the DB2 Family Fundamental exam, the first exam in the DB2 certification series. The book explains basic relational database concepts, the basics of the structured query language (SQL), and gives a solid overview of the various user tasks that are associated with this product. It includes introductory information about designing databases, creating relational objects, managing DB2 on a day-to-day basis, and writing application programs that use DB2 data. It also introduces new users to some of the more complex capabilities of DB2, such as, DB2 in the Web environment, distributed data, and data sharing. SUSAN GRAZIANO SLOAN is an Advisory Software Engineer at IBM Silicon Valley Laboratory, San Jose, CA, where DB2 UDB for z/OS is developed. She has been team lead of the DB2 UDB for z/OS writing team since 2001, when she co-authored An Introduction to DB2 for OS/390, which earned a Merit Award in the Society for Technical Communication's Northern California competition.
