About the authors

Eleanor J. Sullivan, PhD, RN, FAAN, is the former dean of the University of Kansas School of Nursing, past president of Sigma Theta Tau International, and editor of the Journal of Professional Nursing.

Gayle Garland, MSN, RGN, RN is the Head of the Academic Unit for Management and Leadership within the Institute for Innovation in Professional Practice at the School of Healthcare, University of Leeds. She is a master trainer for the Leading an Empowered Organisation (LEO) programme and has been involved in leading the National LEO programme commissioned by the NHS National Leadership Centre.
