Albyn Davis received his B.A. from Stanford University and his Ph.D. from Ohio University, both in the field of Communication Disorders. After three years as a speech-language pathologist at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Pittsburgh, he taught for nine years at the University of Memphis and 23 years at the University of Massachusetts where he retired as professor emeritus in 2007. Currently he is an adjunct professor at New York University, teaching Language Disorders in Adults. Dr. Davis co-developed the PACE therapy procedure for aphasia. He has investigated clinical interactions and discourse production, and his most recent research delved into psycholinguistic processing by people with aphasia. He has published a series of texts on adult language disorders. He chaired the Clinical Aphasiology Conference and was an associate editor of the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the National Aphasia Association and is a consultant for the Adler Aphasia Center.
A comprehensive, current foundation for pursuing a clinical career in adult language disorders, this new text is ideal for graduate courses on aphasia in adults and related cognitive disorders. The author’s coverage of both theory and research in a balanced treatment of impairment-based and communication-based disorders is written in a relaxed writing style aimed at students. Professor Davis uses a single, coherent voice across the chapters to establish a consistent way of thinking about the material, while noting inter-chapter relationships throughout.
