Synopsis
The use of the computer is so taken for granted that most business organisations of any size could not survive without them. But the explosive growth in demand for information technology masks the fact that it is rarely used to its full potential. This book indicates some possible reasons and solutions. Chapter one outlines the concepts and practical procedures as used throughout the book; chapter two contains an overview of the design process based on the premis that an application is a set of computer programs and a database linked to manual procedures by a man-machine interface (MMI) and that all the components have to be designed to fit together. The remainder of the book is concerned with the design process - design of data flow, design of the MMI, validation, entity and data modelling, database design, and program management. The concluding chapter provides a brief outline of key issues and problems in information resource management.
