Synopsis
This book offers a general sociological examination of policy that will appeal to students from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds. Although theoretical issues form a significant part of the analysis, an attempt is made to involve users directly and practically in studying the dynamics of the policy process. This is done through a series of actual policy case studies covering a range of policy issues and institutional locations, including health service reorganisation and privatisation in local government. In particular, these detailed studies provide examples from real policy situations of what is an underlying concern of this text - the links between actors and structural factors.
