Synopsis
Enduring, intimate relationships and friendships are among the most important aspects of our lives. Yet all too often they fail to live up to our hopes and expectations, causing instead much unhappiness and confusion. The reason for this disappointment lies sometimes in the unrealistic, romantic beliefs that we grew up with, and sometimes in the social conditioning that leads us to avoid and deny our real feelings. "Being Intimate" offers practical guidance for the creation of a climate in which intimacy and love can flourish. We are shown how to develop trust and how to uncover and communicate what we really feel, using a process called focusing, described here in detail. This provides a framework for the transformation of our relationships into rich and satisfying experiences that are a source of growth, joy and support for each person involved.
