Synopsis
Edmund Burke is the intellectual founder of modern political conservatism and a significant figure in aesthetic theory and cultural studies. As a member of the House of Commons during the late 18th century, Burke shook parliament with his strongly articulated views on the most pressing issues of his day. He defended the American Revolution and the rights of persecuted Catholics in England and Ireland, and denounced English Jacobin sympathizers during the French Revolution. This is the mostcomprehensive one-volume edition of Burke's writings. It contains sections devoted to his thoughts on history and culture, politics and society, the American revolution, Ireland, colonialism, India, and the French revolution.

À propos de l'auteur
Edmund Burke (1729-1797) was born in Dublin and educated at Trinity College. A lifelong member of Parliament, Burke is the author of A PHILOSOPHICAL ENQUIRY INTO THE SUBLIME AND THE BEAUTIFUL and REFELCTIONS ON THE REVOLUTION IN FRANCE.
Issac Kramnick is Professor of Government at Cornell University and has edited THE PORTABLE ENLIGHTENMENT READER for Viking.
