'THE EXTINCTION CLUB is history, mystery, confession, hymn to a long-lost masculinity and adventure story - like Dava Sobel's Longitude with a black belt. As you would expect from the shining genius of the author of ANGRY WHITE PYJAMAS, the pages fly by like the kicks and punches of a Jet Li combination. Robert Twigger is a unique and dazzling talent - a nineteenth-century adventurer trapped in the body of a twenty-first century writer. I urge you to read everything that carries his name' - Tony Parsons

Minor cover creases and shelf wear, ink website adress and numerals to inside front cover, heavy foxing to endpapers and edges of reading block. ; First printing of Penguin paperback edition with number one, 2002. Nice tight copy, no names inside. Cover artwork by Kate Allen. ; 192 pages; This was supposed to be a book about a small, badly designed deer that was hunted to the edge of extinction in its native China by the nineteenth century and only survived in posh parks and Western zoos. The Chinese know it as Milu, but in the West its called Pere David's deer. But the more the author tried to write the fascinating tale of missionaries, emperors and unreasonably cute, rare animals, the more he got distracted by other fascinating subjects.
