Regine Miller was ten when her teenage brother was taken by the Nazis. Not long after, her father, determined to protect her from the perils facing Jews in World War II Brussels, sent her to the relatively safe but cheerless house of a widow who seemed more interested in the money she received than in Regine. Regine survived, moving between four Belgian households, while her parents too were taken by the Nazis. This true story is told as if it were a novel.
