Rita's brothers and sisters won't let her join in their games because they think she is too young. One day she receives a parcel containing a rescuer's outfit, this leads her into a series of adventures that include stopping Basher Briggs from stealing her brother's toffees, and saving her sister from a charging bull! But even Rita the Rescuer has to get home in time for tea.

Hilda Offen was born in Surrey and spent the first part of her life on an entirely self-sufficient small-holding. She studied at Reigate School of Art and then became a freelance illustrator, working for magazines and newspapers. She later took an English degree at University College, London. She writes and illustrates books for children and teaches in colleges. Hilda Offen lives in Sussex.
