Synopsis

Volpone reveals Venice, the ideal Renaissance republic, as a hotbed of greed, sexual intrigue, and self interest, while in Epicone's London, a noise-hating misogynist decides to take a fashionable wife, with surprising qualifications.

À propos de l'auteur

Ben Jonson (1572-1637) began to work in 1597 for Henslowe's company as a player and playwright. In 1616 he was granted a royal pension and made, in effect, Poet Laureate. He was twice imprisoned for his work as co-author of satirical dramas.
Lorna Hutson read English at Oxford and is now Reader in Renaissance Studies.
