Synopsis

In 1765, Darise Latimer sets out to discover the secret of his parentage in a perilous journey to south-west Scotland. He is kidnapped by his uncle, Redgauntlet, who is involved in a last, fictional, attempt to restore the Stuarts to the British throne. REDGAUNTLET (1824) is the culmination of Scott's Jacobite novels and offsets Redgauntlet's commitment to the violent political structures of Scotland's past with Darsie's eventual support for the Hanoverian peace.
