The aim of this reference work is both to provide a definition of the technical terms used in psychoanalysis, and to emphasize the philosophical, theoretical and semantic issues raised by particular analytical concepts and used by different schools of thought.

Charles Rycroft's 'Critical Dictionary of Psychoanalysis' is an established reference work providing clear definitions and critical discussions of the technical terms used in psychoanalysis. "An accurate and witty guide to the meaning of psychoanalytic terms ... [it] also explains the various controversies which have disfigured the psychoanalytic movement and which are such a puzzle to those outside it. For anyone concerned with psychoanalysis and its offshoots this is an indispensable book" Anthony Storr
Charles Rycroft was born in 1914 and was educated at Wellington College and Trinity College, Cambridge. He went into private practice as a psychoanalyst in 1947 and from 1956 to 1968 was a part-time Consultant in Psychotherapy at the Tavistock Clinic. He wrote many key books on psychoanalysis including 'Anxiety and Neurosis' (1968) and 'Psychoanalysis and Beyond' (1985). He died in 1998.

Etat : Used. In a world where the human psyche is as delicate as a soufflé and as puzzling as a Rubik?s Cube, Charles Rycroft?s *A Critical Dictionary of Psychoanalysis* dances onto the literary stage like a slightly tipsy Freud at a Victorian soirée. Published in 1988 by Penguin, this tome whimsically invites readers to explore the labyrinthine corridors of the subconscious, armed with nothing more than a dictionary and perhaps an unhealthy obsession with Freud?s moustache. Rycroft, with the aplomb of a cat walking on a piano, deftly navigates the intricate web of psychoanalytic terminology, making it accessible to those who may have previously thought that "Oedipus Complex" was merely a bougie cocktail served at pretentious parties. This book is not just a collection of definitions; oh no, it?s a buffet of intellectual hors d?oeuvres for the discerning mind. Expect to nibble on entries ranging from the mundane to the utterly baffling, with each word playfully taunting your sanity. Wander through the pages and discover: The meaning of ?transference? without needing a therapist?s couch. A comprehensive guide to ?repression? that may provide insight into why you always forget your mother-in-law?s birthday. Insightful musings on ?dream analysis? that could have you questioning whether your recurring nightmare of being chased by a giant avocado is more profound than you think. Thoughts on the ?id,? ?ego,? and ?superego? that make your childhood imaginary friend seem like a well-adjusted adult. A delightful yet perplexing exploration of ?defense mechanisms,? which is excellent news for anyone with a penchant for denial. This dictionary is an essential companion for anyone who has ever flipped through a glossy magazine and thought, ?Am I just a product of my upbringing?? or ?Why do I find myself inexplicably drawn to inflatable pool toys?? Rycroft?s critical entries are packed with enough wit to make even the most jaded reader chuckle, while simultaneously leading you down a rabbit hole of existential musings that could make a modern philosopher weep. Condition: This particular copy has lived a life as rich and textured as the theories it discusses. Slightly dog-eared and marked with the fingerprints of intellectual curiosity, it carries the patina of a book that has been lovingly read and referenced?perhaps during a particularly intense debate over the merits of Freudian theory at the local pub. Its pages may have yellowed slightly, sharing gossip from hard-to-reach corners of the human experience, but fear not: the words remain as sharp as a well-honed scalpel. Whether you?re a seasoned psychoanalytic scholar or someone who merely found a dusty old book in the attic and thought, ?How quaint,? Rycroft?s *A Critical Dictionary of Psychoanalysis* is a must-have for your collection. It promises to entertain, enlighten, and perhaps even induce a mild existential crisis?all from the comfort of your armchair. And if you find yourself wondering why you?re suddenly obsessed with your childhood teddy bear, well, that?s just the power of psychoanalysis at work. Snag this quirky treasure from Crappy Old Books, where the only thing older than the ink is our sense of humor. After all, who wouldn?t want to dissect their own neuroses while sipping tea and reflecting on the deeper meanings behind their choice of biscuit? THIS BOOK BEARS THE CRAPPY OLD BOOKS STAMP. IF THAT IS UNDESIRABLE PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS. THE STAMP MARKS WHICH IS USUALLY TO THE FRONT AND BACK INNER PAGES SAYS SOLD BY CRAPPY OLD BOOKS WITH WEB SITE URL. IT IN NO WAY DEMINISHED FROM THE READING. IF YOU WANT A PRISTINE BOOK, PLEASE FIND ANOTHER BOOK IN BETTER CONDITION SOMEWHERE ELSE. N° de réf. du vendeur 1883
