Philippa Butler was born in Cyprus but grew up in England. She studied English at London University and has had a variety of jobs including teaching adult literacy and working in children's publishing. She lives in London. This is her first book.

George Smith studied graphic art at Harrow College of Art and worked as art director in a major London advertising agency before becoming a full-time illustrator. He lives in Kent.
