Written between 1937 and 1954, FLYING HOME AND OTHER STORIES represents the best of Ralph Ellison's short fiction. The thirteen pieces, six of which were never published in the author's lifetime, draw on his young experiences and, as John F. Callahan says, 'are early explorations of his lifelong fascination with the complex fate and beautiful absurdity of American identity'.
