Until one day, Mrs. Sivakami, the principal of the school, finds Goddess Saraswati wandering through the corridors of her school, searching for the river that bears Her name. Goddess Saraswati takes the principal with her on her swan, Hansa, to look for the river. During the journey, Mrs. Sivakami learns a few things about the concept of education, and the things that could be wrong with the current system. She also learns that the River Saraswati no longer flows through her school because her students are no longer inquisitive about things. Can she find a way to rekindle her student s interest in learning and bring back the river? The book has many interesting line drawing illustrations to accompany the story.

Devdutt Pattanaik studied medicine, but was more interested in the folklore, legends, and the great epics and Puranas of India. Other books by Devdutt Pattanaik include retelling of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata - The Book Of Ram and Jaya: An Illustrated Retelling of the Mahabharata. Pattanaik gave up practicing medicine and became a full time writer, retelling stories from the ancient epics and legends. In the process, he also uncovers the wisdom hidden behind each story to the readers.
