Biographie de l'auteur

Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954, when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. He wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract thousands of new readers every year. His most distinguished and popular accomplishments include Out of the Silent Planet, The Great Divorce, The Screwtape Letters, and the universally acknowledged classics The Chronicles of Narnia. To date, the Narnia books have sold over 100 million copies and have been transformed into three major motion pictures.

He was born with the tremendous imagination that produced `Narnia'; but part of his creative style came from the way he was brought up. In 1905 - 07 (at the age of 9+/-) he produced a series of imaginative works dealing with the fictional place, Animal-Land or Boxen. This was in part a reaction to a stern father, an ill mother and/or an insane headmaster at school. A boy's mind might wander. The stories were accom. by C.S.Lewis drawings. Hooper pulls all this together (though it is fragmentally preserved) and with the help of notes from ` Jack's ' brother, presents it in this volume - with annotations. 206 pages of text with b/w drawings, maps, notes and characters by Lewis. Cond: Rem. mark on bottom edge and two sli. soft corners BUT very good. No names, no marks. Neither tears nor folds. Light crease on front cover. Frog in jacket drawing on ` marbled' paper cover.
