Hardcover. Etat : Fine. David Jones (1895-1974) was an artist and poet. His work, both artistic and poetic, was exalted in his own time, with Kenneth Clark describing him as the best living British artist in 1965, and T.S. Eliot and W.H. Auden praised his poetry as being some of the best of their generation. His works were particularly inspired by Christianity and his Welsh background. The author, William Blissett (b. 1921) is an emeritus professor of English at the Unviersity of Toronto and a noted collector of modernist works. In 1959 Dr Blissett began making visits to Jones, which continued until Jones' death in 1974. He made real-time records of their conversations, which are presented in this book, providing an "affectionate and valuable record of those meetings" which are "rendered with great immediacy and in vivid detail." Also included are Jones' letters to Bissett. The book is of particular interest because of the breadth of topics discussed, and because throughout the course of the conversations and correspondence Jones provides insight into some of his more esoteric works. This book and its dust jacker are in Near Fine condition. Inscribed by Author(s). N° de réf. du vendeur 274
