Synopsis
This book reflects an entirely new approach to the professional development of doctors - an approach involving a much broader range of skills and techniques than that implied by continuing medical education. Traditional medical education is limited by its concentration on updating and increasing knowledge rather than acquiring new skills. In addition, there is very little evidence that the traditional methods work. In this book, the authors explain why a completely new approach is needed to help doctors and their practices function more effectively. A wide range of activities are described, including strategic planning, improving consultation skills portfolio-based learning and the use of mentors and facilitators.
