Synopsis

INSCRIBED by O'Shea to someone she clearly enjoyed a personal relationship with, commending her, "for all your good work with Rosie", likely a reference to O'Shea's granddaughter Rose, and signed and dated July 1997 to half title. This children's classic is especially elusive in the first edition and more so inscribed by the author. The jacket artwork and design by Stephen Lavis, who has also illustrated C. S. Lewis's 'The Chronicles of Narnia', as well as works by Alan Garner and T. H. White. 8vo. Black boards, gilt titles to spine. In unclipped dust jacket with light edgewear, some impressions, a couple of light crease marks, a couple of minor nicks, to tops of front and rear folds. pp. 469, [8]. The text block is toned to page edges and page margins. There are a couple of small snags to leading page edges. Otherwise, a clean, sound copy in an intact, bright jacket.
