Synopsis
This completely new edition of the successful First Certificate Masterclass offers teachers and students a thorough and effective course for the revised Cambridge First Certificate in English examination (1996 syllabus). In order to demonstrate their full knowledge of English on the day of the exam, students preparing for the First Certificate need both to consolidate the language they have been taught previously and to acquire new skills and techniques. New First Certificate Masterclass combines a systematic review of the language tested with extensive exam training. KEY FEATURES * Exam techniques sections cover every part of the five exam papers, giving step-by-step guidance and practice to build confidence. * Exam training writing sections deal in depth with each Paper 2 task type. Additional sections focus on general writing skills development. * Grammar is revised and extended through an inductive approach, which encourages students to identify what they know and build on it to achieve greater understanding and accuracy. The Grammar reference provides valuable support to the unit material. * Vocabulary is developed through three main areas of coverage: topic vocabulary, word building and phrasal verbs. * Frequent Use of English tasks train students thoroughly for Paper 3. A separate list of lexical phrases highlights key verbs, prepositional phrases and other common expressions. * Reading and listening texts from a wide variety of sources generate interest and prepare students for the type of material covered in Papers 1 and 4. * Regular opportunities for speaking throughout the course develop fluency and confidence for Paper 5. A Workbook is available, which practises the grammar and vocabulary from the Student's Book units and gives further exam practice for Papers 1, 2 and 3. The Teacher's Book provides extensive support, including photocopiable test material. There are two cassettes to accompany the course.
