Synopsis

This is a revised edition of a textbook previously published by Ronald Press, USA. It is intended as a text for introductory courses in Old Testament studies. The first contact with modern biblical scholarship can be extremely unsettling to students with conservative religious backgrounds. It often appears to them that the methods of such scholarship, e.g. in questioning the authorship and/or historicity of parts of scripture, contradicts their deeply held belief in the divine inspiration of scripture. This text is specifically designed to introduce modern scholarship in a positive way, and to demonstrate that this approach to scripture can support, rather than challenge, their faith.
