Trial and Error traite de l'histoire de l'enseignement de l'évolution dans les lycées américains et de la controverse continue sur le «créationnisme» et l'évolution. Trial and Error deals with the history of the teaching of evolution in American high schools and with the continuing controversy over `creationism' and evolution. The controversy has been a political issue, particularly in the South, and climaxed first in the famous `monkey trial' in Tennessee in the mid 1920s and later in the 1970s in the unsuccessful attempt of several states to impose the teaching of `creationism' alongside Darwin's theory of evolution.
