Synthesizing the vast amount of research done in the last two decades on the roles of women in economic development, this anthology provides both a historical and political overview of the field and a careful examination of major areas of current research. It deals with issues of women in development in local economies, theories of development and their relation to women, power and powerlessness, the linkages between education and work, and justice. All of the chapters, except one, were written for this book. It includes writers from a broad range of ideological points of view. Thus there is no advocacy of a single point of view.
