Synopsis

The mobile home may well be the most innovative and unique form of housing in 20th-century America. No other type of housing has been more widely adopted, nor more widely vilified. Since the late 19th century the mobile home has invaded the realm of the housing establishment and now plays a major role in American housing. This study reviews the history of the mobile home industry and the architectural form itself, focusing on the process of absorption within the housing system and the likely effects on the mobile home itself. This book is not so much an historical study as an exploration of the process and structure of change in American housing.
