9780195081886: Remote Sensing of the Lower Atmosphere: An Introduction

Synopsis

This introductory graduate level text focuses on atmospheric remote sensing. It provides a basic understanding of the important reactions between electromagnetic radiation and matter, and uses examples drawn from remote sensing to illustrate these interactions as they occur in the Earth's atmosphere. The book emphasises the conceptual aspects of the interactions, and understanding is tested throughout with worked examples and problems after each chapter. Stephens concentrates on an understanding of the interactions, rather than presenting mathematical details. In so doing, the book supplements atmospheric radiation topics, and places the technology and its application in the broader prespective of contemporary meteorology and atmospheric science.
