His previous collection of essays is entitled Dancing in Your Head: Jazz, Blues, Rock, and Beyond. His writing has appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, People, Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, The New York Times, The Washington Post, New York, and many music publications. He is currently writing a biography of Charles Mingus.
