If the worlds health burden is measured in terms of years of expected life lost, 93 per cent of this burden is borne by developing countries. Yet only 5 per cent of global funding for health research is spent on the common health problems of those countries. This book surveys existing research on health problems of developing countries and makes recommendations for change. It discusses the relation between health and development, the wide disparities of health worldwide, the funding of third world health research, and the potential of such research to improve health.
