Large (12" x 9") red cloth-bound hardcovers have gold spine lettering. Covers have rectangular stains at top and bottom edges where library tape was removed. Spine ends lightly bumped. Endpapers have minor stains left by tape. Volume 1 has stain from library label on title page. Volume 2 has library label on title page. Pages very lightly yellowed on edges. Rear free endpaper of each volume has library sticker & card pocket. Page edges at bottom of both volumes have smudges on bottom corner. Page edges at bottom of vol. 1 have a few dents. Stamped "Cancelled - Sale Authorized" on top page edges. Volume 1: 445 pages + 44 leaves of plates. Volume 2: pages not numbered; 890 plates. Glossy illustrated dust jackets for both volumes have light edge and surface wear. Spines of jackets sunned; both have rectangular stain on spine where library label was removed. Hardcover. Both volumes: Red boards; gilt lettering. Cinnamon dust jackets with bw illus. and white lettering. Vol. I: x, [2], 445, [4] followed by 139 bw figures. Vol. II: 890 bw plates. Heavy at 9 pounds and will require extra postage. Almost 2,000 drawings of all schools, but principally Italian, are catalogued in this work. The collection was essentially formed by General John Guise and bequeathed to Christ Church. Included is a critical appreciation of the masterpieces herein. James Byam Shaw (known popularly as Byam Shaw) was a British painter, illustrator, designer, and teacher. Both VG- clean copies but with light shelf wear and a little play in front hinges.
