Dummett is clear and concise. (The Philosophers' Magazine)
An impressive collection by one of the most influential of living English philosophers ... Reading him, one has the impression of being at the hub of the discussion in the philosophy of language and his points in other areas are invariably authoritative and original. It is welcome as an elaborate and useful contribution to contemporary philosophical thinking. (History and Philosophy of Logic)
His observations are of great interest ... The publishers should be thanked for making it less likely that these important papers will escape the attention of philosophers. (International Philosophical Quarterly)
Michael Dummett was, until his retirement in 1992, Wykeham Professor of Logic at Oxford and a Fellow of New College. He has held visiting professorships at Stanford, Harvard, Minnesota, Princeton, Rockefeller, and Münster universities. He is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Nijmegen, an Honorary Docteur ès Lettres at the University of Caen, and an Honorary Foreign Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. A previous collection of his essays was published as Frege and Other Philosophers by OUP in 1991 and sold over 1200 copies.
