This study provides a systematic approach to the quantum theory of collective phenomena, based principally on the model of infinite systems. The author sets the theory within the framework of modern statistical mechanics, formulating it in rigorous, though relatively simple, mathematical terms. This approach leads to a generalized form of statistical thermodynamic, and to useful characterizations of such collective phenomena as phase transitions, irreversibility, and metastability, going beyond the scope of traditional statistical mechanics of finite systems.

Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. First Edition; First Printing. EX-NCAR LIBRARY copy, removed from circulation, showing the usual treatments. Nevertheless, Very Good+: shows mild rubbing and seveal tiny spots of soil to the panels; the binding leans very slightly but remains secure; the text is clean. Free of any creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of any underlining, hi-lighting or marginalia or marks in the text. A handsome copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing the mildest wear and minor, unobtrusive imperfections. Bright and clean. Corners sharp. But of course the library treatments are a major flaw. NOT a Remainder or Book-Club. 8vo (9.5 x 6.5 x 0.75 inches). Language: English. Weight: 18.7 ounces. Hardcover: Lacks DJ.
