Synopsis

This dictionary is designed for use by English-speakers in the early stages of learning Japanese. All Japanese words and phrases are given in Roman script with standard Japanese script alongside, and headwords are arranged alphabetically. There are over 3,000 entries, which give basic meanings and grammatical information, distinguish between tenses, list compounds, and set out examples and idiomatic expressions. Cross-references direct the user to words of contrasting or related meaning and, where necessary, special usage notes are provided. In addition there is a useful appendix giving an introduction to Japanese grammar.
