Synopsis
TreeTops True Stories are exciting, motivating non-fiction books which will broaden your pupils' reading experience. They are part of a structured reading programme for juniors. A true recounting of the extraordinary life of Kelly, who is a working dog trained to find survivors in disaster areas, and her owner Simon. Centred on the events of the Turkish earthquake in August 1999, it uses fictional characters (except for Simon and Kelly of course!) to tell a powerful tale of the international effort that goes into rescuing people who are caught up in natural disasters. Supported by real photographs of Simon and Kelly, and information on the training and handling of experienced rescue dogs like Kelly, this title explores the theme of the relationship between humans and animals, and the terrific sense of achievement in the saving of ordinary lives. Books contain inside cover notes to support children in their reading. Help with childrens reading development also available at www.oxfordowl.co.uk. This book is also available as part of a mixed pack of 6 different books or a class pack of 36 books of the same Oxford Reading Tree level.
