James W. Cooper does research in information management and retrieval at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, and holds a number of patents. He is the author of numerous technical papers and fourteen books, including Visual Basic Design Patterns (Addison-Wesley, 2002) and Java Design Patterns (Addison-Wesley, 2000). He is also a regular columnist for JavaPro magazine.
