This book attempts to understand normal social motives in murder as products of the process of evolution by natural selection.

Martin Daly is professor emeritus of psychology, neuroscience and behavior at McMaster University. He has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Human Behavior & Evolution Society.
Margo Wilson (1942-2009) was professor of psychology at McMaster University. She was former editor-in-chief of Evolution and Human Behavior and former president of the Human Behavior and Evolution Society.
