Biographie de l'auteur
Ian Fleming, famous for creating James Bond, also loved fast cars — and this love spurred him to write his only children’s book, for his little boy, Caspar, about a car that could fly. Published just after Fleming’s death in 1964, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang: The Magical Car became an immediate bestseller. It has been reinvented as a musical and as a film (with the screenplay written by Roald Dahl) and inspired two sequels written by Frank Cottrell Boyce.
Joe Berger is an editorial cartoonist, animator, and illustrator. He has illustrated numerous books, including the Nosy Crow title Hubble Bubble, Granny Trouble by Tracey Corderoy. Joe Berger lives in England.

The orange boards have some marking at the centre of the front panel - pen scribbles? The front panel also has a quarter-inch tear at the top left corner and two small nicks to the bottom edge. The rear panel has a bump to the top corner and some white marking on the top edge. Top edges of the pages are lightly browned with some spotting. The pages are otherwise unmarked. Price clipped jacket has some light surface and edge wear with two creases at the bottom of the front flap. Jacket design and illustrations throughout by John Burningham. First printing. With the dustwrapper and book illustrations throughout by John Burningham. ***A very good copy in orange cloth-covered boards with silver titles to the spine and a silver car design to the front board. The silver is still beautifully bright having been protected by the dustwrapper. The boards are clean and unmarked. Head and tail of spine just very slightly creased. Corners sharp. Page block edges clean without any foxing. Internally also very good, with a contemporary ownership name and date (1979) to the front free endpaper. No other inscriptions or annotations. Paper clean without any creasing or tears - just some light foxing to the first and last couple of pages. Illustrated endpapers. Spine tight with no reading lean. Binding square. ***In a very good colour-illustrated dustwrapper, which has been neatly price-clipped at the bottom corner. The dustwrapper is complete, with a very small area of loss at the bottom of the spine, and some light edge wear, rubbing and scuffing at the edges, with a couple of small closed tears at the top and bottom edges of the back panel. No significant creases or tears. No chips. No fading or browning even to the spine of the dustwrapper - just some light foxing marks to the back panel and edges of the foldover flaps which are uncreased. Dustwrapper bright - a nice clean original dustwrapper. ***238mm x 165mm. 128 pages. ***'"Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang: The Magical Car" is a children's novel written by Ian Fleming for his son Caspar, with illustrations by John Burningham. It was initially published in three volumes, the first of which was released on 22 October 1964 by Jonathan Cape in London. Fleming, better known as the creator of James Bond, took his inspiration for the subject from a series of aero-engined racing cars called "Chitty Bang Bang", built by Louis Zborowski in the early 1920s at Higham Park. Fleming had known Higham Park as a guest of its later owner, Walter Whigham, chairman of Robert Fleming & Co. It was the last book he wrote and he did not live to see it published. "Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang" was loosely adapted as a 1968 film of the same name with a screenplay by Roald Dahl and Ken Hughes; a subsequent novelisation was also published.' Although a later Bond title, first printings are quite hard to find now in such nice, bright collectable condition.
