Synopsis
Gaff rigging dominated the world of sailing for 250 years before the emergence of the Bermudan rig, and is currently enjoying a considerable revival of interest. This study examines both the history of gaff-rigged craft and the practical aspects of sailing them. Illustrated throughout with photographs representing a unique historical collection, this study depicts the vessels, the characters who sailed them and the working practices of the craft. Two new chapters have been added to this second edition to examine French and Baltic gaff rigs.
