Soft cover. Etat : Near Fine. 1st Edition. Paperback, x + 145 pages, NOT ex-library. Book looks unread, minor handling wear. Clean and bright with unmarked text, free of inscriptions and stamps, firmly bound. Straight uncreased spine. -- This book systematically maps the diverse theoretical landscape of Translation Studies over the last 50 years. It begins by interrogating the very notion of theory in the field, questioning who theorists are, what their goals are, and what constitutes a translation theory. The author then organizes the plethora of theories into three overarching categories. The first cluster examines the translation product, delving into concepts of equivalence, function, and the postcolonial dimension of translated texts. The second category dissects the translation process, drawing on insights from Communication Theory, empirical research methods like think-aloud protocols and eye tracking, and specialized processes such as software localization, game localization, and audiovisual translation. The third framework focuses on the translator, theorizing their role as networker, agent, negotiator of meaning, risk-taker, and ethically responsible actor, including perspectives on visibility, subjectivity, and translator training. By integrating non-Western theories and addressing the impact of technological advancements, the book offers a comprehensive, globally informed understanding of the multifaceted nature of translation theory, revealing the field's depth and its ongoing evolution.
