Synopsis
From the very earliest times, people have used buildings both as houses to live in and also to serve as centres for important activities: churches, temples, libraries or castles, for example. However, in time the buildings are buried and forgotten. How can the purpose of each building be identified? and what can we learn about the people who built them? In this text Mike Corbishley investigates some of the most famous buildings and cities in the world, including Troy, Pompeii, the pyramid of Machu Picchu and the Viking settlement of Jorvik.
