Synopsis

This new and brilliant issue of McSweeney’s comes in three parts, held together by a magnet.

In the first, poets including Michael Ondaatje and Denis Johnson initiate poet-chains, picking a poem of their own and one by another poet, who then does the same, and so on.

In the second, F. Scott Fitzgerald provides unused story premises first catalogued in The Crack-Up; his mission is completed by new writers. I

n the third, the president of France's legendary Oulipians offers a rare glimpse into his group's current experiments with linguistic constraint.

Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose...

Hardcover. Etat : As New. Etat de la jaquette : As New. First Edition. A genuine UK first edition / first printing, with the words 'First published in Great Britain by Hamish Hamilton' on the copyrght page. This is issue number 22 of the hugely original literary 'magazine' known as McSweeney's (its full name being 'Timothy McSweeney's Quarterly Concern'). Started in 1998 by Dave Eggers, author of 'A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius', it originally featured only works rejected by other magazines. Since then, it has included contributions from John Updike, Zadie Smith, Haruki Murakami, Michael Chabon and many other literary stars, and was awarded the National Magazine Award for Fiction 2006. The founders have promised there will be no more than 56 issues. This is issue 22, and comes in the form of three paperback books held together by magnets in a faux leather binder. As usual, the emphasis is on wit, literary quality and beautiful book-design. This issue includes the hilarious 'unwritten stories of F.Scott Fitzgerald', new work from the Oulipo movement, and a continuation of 'The Poetry Chains of Dominic Luxford', in which ten poets choose their favourite ten poets, who choose their favourite ten poets, and so on. There are contributions from Michael Ondjaate, John Ashberry and Mark Doty. The book is in perfect condition, and has never been read. No insccriptions or marks of any kind. All of our books are stored out of sunlight, and sent with care. N° de réf. du vendeur 000283
