Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book extends the insights of k-sets and (S k)-sets in relation to curve and surface arrangements. Rooted in the disciplines of geometry and computer science, the book expands the understanding of k-set behavior when applied to curves uniquely separating a plane from arrangements of curves and surfaces. Starting with the basic definitions and established bounds of these sets, the author explores three specific cases with novel findings. The author adapts the probabilistic analysis technique of Clarkson to ascertain relationships between the maximum size of the (S k)-set and the maximum size of a 0-set in a sample of curves, ultimately yielding more precise bounds. The book concludes with a variety of significant applications of the established bounds to problems in computer science such as sparse coverings, placements of convex objects amidst convex obstacles, and various arrangements of segments and curves. Overall, this book offers a significant contribution to the understanding of k-sets and (S k)-sets, presenting novel theoretical insights with valuable practical applications.
