This book presents the complete historical record and legal argument of a land dispute between the US government and the Eastern Cherokee that began with the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The author argues that the US violated the treaties signed with the Cherokee Nation and that the removal of the Cherokee people from their ancestral lands was illegal and resulted in the violation of their civil rights. The book concludes that the Treaty of 1835, which forced the Cherokee people to give up their lands in the east, was fraudulent and the result of extortion, duress, and bad faith on the part of the government officials who negotiated it. The author presents evidence from government documents, treaties, and Cherokee petitions to support the claim that the US government violated its treaty obligations to the Cherokee Nation and that the Cherokee people were entitled to compensation for their losses.
