Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book examines the historical and scriptural evidence surrounding the papacy, arguing that the claims to power and authority made by the Pope are unfounded. The author, through analysis of the New Testament, particularly the Epistle to the Romans, posits that St. Paul, not St. Peter, had the care of all the churches, and thus was not subordinate to St. Peter, and that therefore the papacy has no basis in scripture. Furthermore, the book argues that the development of papal authority was a gradual accretion of power rather than a divinely ordained institution, and that many of the doctrines and practices associated with the papacy are not found in early Christian tradition. Through engaging with historical sources and theological arguments, this book sheds light on the evolution of papal authority and its relationship to the broader Christian tradition.
