This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. In this book, the author delves into the history of the National Museum and the masterful decisions made in its conception that led it to become what it is today. The museum's evolution began in 1846 when Congress recognized the Smithsonian Institution's ability to take on the mantle of a national museum of natural curiosities and human cultural history. The author provides many examples of the kinds of exhibits that the public may view, from natural history's hall of mammals to the life-sized model of a dinosaur skeleton; from some of the world's most impressive gems and minerals to the Wright Brothers' plane; from gowns worn by First Ladies to a working model of an early computer; and even the history of American music as the museum displays stringed instruments dating back to the 1700s. The technological, cultural, and artistic breadth displayed in the museum offers visitors a wide range of ways to explore the history of the United States and the world. By focusing on the origins, growth, scope, and significance of the National Museum, the author invites the reader to appreciate its profound influence on not only Washington, D.C., but also the entire nation, and see the museum not as a static repository of artifacts but as an ever-evolving testament to human ingenuity. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
