This book examines the diagnosis and treatment of perityphlitis, a serious inflammation of the appendix, which can lead to perforation and the development of a peri-caecal abscess. The author describes three groups of cases; one in which the inflammation and ulceration are limited to the walls of the caecum, one in which both caecum and appendix are affected, and another in which the appendix is perforated, with the formation of an abscess. Their relative severity, symptoms, pathology, diagnosis and treatment are discussed at length. This study provides valuable guidance to the management of perityphlitis and peri-caecal abscesses, with special attention to their timely detection and appropriate treatment.
