Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book explores the literary and historical relationship between the lives of two early Christian hermits: Paul of Thebes and Anthony the Great. The author delves into multiple ancient sources, including Greek and Latin manuscripts, to piece together the complex transmission of Paul's story. The book highlights the role of Saint Jerome's Latin translation of the original Greek life of Paul in shaping subsequent accounts of the hermit's life. It examines how these later versions, including both written texts and oral traditions, adapted and transformed the original narrative to suit different audiences and purposes. By uncovering the intricate web of sources and influences that shaped the story of Paul of Thebes, the book sheds light on the development of early Christian hagiography and the broader cultural context in which it flourished. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
