Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is an in-depth philological study of an ancient, medieval text known as Ostende nobis, broken down into five parts. It is an Alleluiatic verseâ"a melodic formula sung before a verse or psalm, usually during religious servicesâ"that has been set to many different texts and adapted to serve a variety of purposes since its composition in the early Middle Ages. The author analyzes its musical notation and evolution, comparing different manuscripts to trace its transition and adaptation to suit new purposes from the 8th century onwards, providing a wealth of historical background to enrich the reader's understanding. Far from being a dry scholarly tome, the author's love for the subject shines through, inviting the reader on a journey to understand the intricacies of this ancient musical form. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9780243913633_0
