Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is the full text of a one-act verse comedy by the author of Tartuffe and Don Juan. The play is set in the home of Maitre Georges Pinel, a schoolmaster. The action begins as Maitre Jean Poquelin bursts into the room in despair. His son, Jean-Baptiste, has announced that he has abandoned his studies to join a troupe of actors at a theatre in the city. The elder Poquelin begs Pinel's help in talking his son out of what he sees as a disastrous career choice. Pinel speaks eloquently about the importance of education and the dangers of a life on the stage. However, the young man is adamant that he has found his true calling in the theatre. He argues that acting is a noble profession that requires talent, dedication, and hard work, and that he is determined to make his mark on the world as a great actor. Pinel, seeing that his arguments are having no effect, decides to try a different approach. He tells the young man that he has a plan that will allow him to pursue his dream of acting while still getting a good education. He proposes that the young man become a teacher at his school, where he can teach acting to the students. This will give him the opportunity to practice his craft while also earning a steady income. The young man is intrigued by this proposal, and after some discussion, he agrees to give it a try. The play ends with the young man leaving to start his new job, while his father looks on with a mixture of hope and trepidation.
